Nvidia and the National Science Foundation (NSF) have partnered to launch NAIRR, a $30 million pilot that aims at promoting responsible AI research and innovation.
The NAIRR pilot will allow researchers to have access to innovative AI tools and resources such as NVIDIA DGX Cloud artificial intelligence supercomputing systems, together with the latest NVIDIA AI Enterprise software. The objective of this collaboration is to make AI research less monopolized by establishments that are well funded such as universities and private labs.
In his own words, NSF Director Sethuraman Panchanathan said that funding AI research through the NAIRR pilot by investing in it liberates discovery and impact as well as strengthens global competitiveness.
The initiative is in line with the executive order of Biden on AI, which stresses building dependable and secure AI. The pilot will further expand potential access to AI research by supporting the development of artificial intelligence concepts within university classrooms.
This cooperation follows Nvidia’s alliance with a data center operator Equinix to provide supercomputing systems for the latter’s corporation clients.
The NAIRR pilot is a major milestone towards democratizing AI research and development in America.
