Chainlink, a blockchain infrastructure firm, reported that its annual SmartCon conference is planned for October 30-31, 2024, in Hong Kong. The move comes as Hong Kong actively courts major Web3 events to establish itself as Asia’s premier crypto hub.
The San Francisco-based firm, known for its decentralized oracle network, selected Hong Kong at the invitation of the local government. Hong Kong officials touted the city’s efforts to attract Web3 businesses through new crypto regulations and licensing regimes.
SmartCon 2024 will be a covering event of Blocktober, a series of crypto conferences organized by industry group Web3 Harbour from October 13 to November 1. These major event wins signal Hong Kong’s Web3 push is gaining momentum.
Hong Kong has actively courted the crypto industry since 2022 through regulatory changes. Recent policies include a licensing regime for crypto trading platforms that saw 24 firms apply by the February deadline.
