The Dark Knight is returning to the Ethereum ecosystem in a new NFT collection commemorating the 85th anniversary of Batman’s first appearance in “Detective Comics #27.”
The Legacy Cowls Collection is the next installment of the Bat Cowl Batman-themed NFT series that debuted in 2022. Made in collaboration with DC Comics and Warner Brothers Discovery Group, The Legacy Cowls Collection spans 11,544 digital collectibles using the Ethereum scaling network Palm that will drop on March 29 and be available via Candy Digital for $49.99.
Pricing details were not immediately available. Candy Digital is releasing as many Legacy Cowls as the number of original Bat Cowls released in the original 2022 drop. Owners of those NFTs have gone on to help shape the comic story that inspired this latest set of digital collectibles.
“Batman is one of the world’s most iconic superheroes, with hundreds of millions of fans around the world. His story has shaped comic culture,” Candy Digital Chief Creative Officer Straith Schreder told Decrypt. “And, over the course of the past two years, his story has been shaped by fans on the DC NFT Platform, who have voted on, and contributed to the direction of an original DC comic book series, ‘Batman: The Legacy Cowl.'”
The Legacy Cowls Collection features 3D collectibles with artwork based on “Batman: The Legacy Cowl,” created by DC artist Pablo M. Collar and writer Dan Abnett.
Specializing in sports and entertainment collectibles with a focus on fan experiences, Candy Digital is backed by investors including Galaxy Digital, ConsenSys Mesh, HENI, and 10T Holdings.
“The Legacy Cowls project commemorates the first original DC comic on the blockchain,” Schreder said. “It marks the introduction of the first DC supervillain created through fan voting. And it points to a future where creativity is collaborative; where fans can shape and see themselves in the stories they love.”
Schreder explained that by participating in The Legacy Cowls Collection experience, fans can continue to contribute to the story through voting and crafting events, as well as uncover clues and overwrite the Legacy Cowl’s “villainous code.”

“2024 is a landmark year; this collection is a starting point,” she added.
According to Candy Digital, owning a Legacy Cowl collectible grants access to augmented reality experiences on Meta platforms, along with voting on creative decisions, access to puzzles, and exclusive future drops. Schrader said that DC has been releasing “DC collectible comics” on a biweekly basis, with its 88th such drop coming this month.
