Footballers from clubs including Arsenal and Chelsea are working with the technology investor LocalGlobe and the metaverse specialist Improbable to create a virtual world for football fans.
The pair are committing $4 million in seed funding to a virtual league, which will be introduced in the spring. Other backers for the start-up are the fashion photographer Hugo Comte and players including Oleksandr Zinchenko and Nwankwo Kanu.
Victory League will collaborate with leading clubs, players and leagues across Europe in men’s and women’s football. The venture will offer players equity for their participation in events, with a new revenue stream and a fresh way to interact with fans.
The player Oleksandr Zinchenko is part of the “evolution” of the game as a backer of the project
It will be powered by Improbable’s “Morpheus” technology and run events allowing up to 30,000 fans to interact
