The Web3 community champions decentralization principles, advocating for removing control from singular institutions to empower individuals in creating a more equitable ecosystem.
However, despite the industry’s commitment to inclusivity, some gender disparity persists. As of 2023, women held just 26% of all jobs in the crypto sector, while a mere 6% occupied top leadership positions. This leaves a significant gap, with 94% of CEOs being male. Bitget’s recent study revealed that only 6% of female-led startups receive funding due to some prejudice remaining in the industry.
To address this gap, Bitget has unveiled the Blockchain4Her (B4H) Ambassador Program — a groundbreaking initiative to enhance inclusivity and provide women with equal access to secure funding opportunities in the crypto sphere.
Debuting at the World Economic Forum in 2024, the B4H Program seeks to elevate the role of women in Web3 through a comprehensive approach. Backed by a substantial $10 million allocation from Bitget, the program comprises four key initiatives designed to foster gender diversity and empowerment within the industry:
- Role modeling
- Networking
- Involvement
- Targeted support
Gracy Chen, Bitget’s Managing Director, emphasizes the importance of promoting women’s involvement in the blockchain space, stating:
“Women are the most underused resource of the global economy in practically every industry. We, on our part, are determined to promote their involvement in the blockchain space by opening up opportunities for them to join the industry and develop”.
Furthermore, the program aims to empower ambitious women to become catalysts for change and advocates for gender equality, inspiring more individuals to join the movement.
One of the B4H’s program ambassadors and co-founder and Hacken, Yevheniia Broshevan, commented on her participation:
“While we dream of Web3’s widespread adoption, it’s crucial to understand that achieving this goal is impossible without ensuring equal opportunities and openness for everyone in this space. I am honored to support initiatives that address these disparities, as I believe that projects of this nature propel us towards a world free from barriers and judgments.”
B4H ambassadors will provide support to women through consultancy sessions and mentorship programs, creating a nurturing environment that fosters female talent.
With such initiatives gaining momentum, 2024 holds promise as a remarkable year for Web3, instilling hope for a more inclusive and diverse industry.
