Senator Elizabeth Warren, known for her skepticism towards Bitcoin, publicly celebrated its 15th anniversary by recognizing its creator, Satoshi Nakamoto.
According to Bitcoin Magazine, Warren participated in the Capitol Flag Program to honor Nakamoto’s creation of Bitcoin (BTC) as a “financial system.”
A flag was flown over the Capitol on Dec. 18, which was recognized by the Bitcoin community as HODL Day.
The recognition shows a marked departure from Warren’s previous stance on cryptocurrency. The event surrounding the flag’s recognition is highlighted in New York City, with a gathering hosted by Bitcoin Magazine and PubKey.
This gathering will include a reading by T.J. Miller of the post that popularized the term “HODL” in the Bitcoin community.
PubKey Co-Founder Thomas Pacchia commented on Warren’s endorsement of Bitcoin, noting the significance of actions in political advocacy.
The pivot follows Warren’s recent legislative proposals to curb the misuse of cryptocurrencies for illicit activities, trying to address the challenges of digital currencies.
